Kalam 0.1.0-beta.36 Released

This update adds new speech providers, including Google AI Studio, Deepgram, AssemblyAI, and ElevenLabs, and fixes several issues with dictation and keyboard input. It also includes changes to the settings and speech provider marks.

Install notes

Kalam ships outside app stores, so the first launch may show a security prompt. That is expected for beta builds — see the Beta Policy.

Windows — SmartScreen may warn on first launch

If you see “Windows protected your PC,” choose More info, then Run anyway.

Browser blocked the download?

Chrome may flag new desktop installers until the publisher is widely recognized. Open download history (Ctrl+J), find the Kalam file, and choose Keep or Download unverified file.

Why Chrome blocks some downloads

Permissions Kalam asks for

  • Microphone

    Required for voice dictation. Audio stays on-device or goes only to the STT provider you configure.

  • Accessibility / input

    Inserts text into other apps and detects the active window for Smart Privacy.

  • Notifications

    Optional — reminders and due dates from the built-in workspace.
