Install notes

Kalam ships outside app stores, so the first launch may show a security prompt. That is expected until builds are store-notarized. Current builds are beta — see the Beta Policy.

Windows — SmartScreen

SmartScreen may show “Windows protected your PC.” Choose More info, then Run anyway.

Linux — .deb / AppImage

From the folder that holds the file (usually Downloads):

.deb (Ubuntu, Mint, Pop!_OS): sudo apt install ./Kalam-linux-x64.deb

AppImage (Fedora): chmod +x Kalam-linux-x64.AppImage then ./Kalam-linux-x64.AppImage

macOS — Gatekeeper (when available)

When installers ship: if you see “from an unidentified developer,” open System Settings → Privacy & Security, then Open Anyway. Or right-click the app and choose Open.

Permissions

Microphone

Required for voice dictation. Audio stays on-device or goes only to the STT provider you configure.
Accessibility / input

Inserts text into other apps and detects the active window for Smart Privacy.
Notifications

Optional — reminders and due dates from the built-in workspace.
