Is Kalam really free?
Does my audio leave my device?
Only if you choose a cloud mode. In Offline mode everything is processed locally. Kalam never stores your audio.
Can I use Kalam offline?
Yes. Kalam ships with a local Whisper model. No internet connection required for transcription.

Do I need an API key?
No. Offline mode needs no key. Pro uses your own Groq or OpenAI key (BYOK). Kalam Max will include hosted transcription and AI when it ships — it is coming soon and is not for sale yet.
How do I start dictating?
Press and hold your hotkey (default: Right Ctrl). Speak naturally. Release the key and your words appear wherever your cursor is.
Is my data safe?
Kalam stores history and workspace data locally. Audio is not written to disk. Read our privacy policy.
